Life before and after electricity in a small village in today’s India is vividly captured in this winner from Amsterdam’s International Documentary Film Festival.

Far from the bustle of city life, the marginalised village of Tora on India’s border with Myanmar has long been waiting in the dark. No roads, no school, no running water, no electricity. When news arrives that a power supply is imminent, the community begins to dream of a new life, perhaps even a fridge for ice cream. How will this dramatic change affect the community? Directors Anirban Dutta and Anupama Srinivasan (who also collaborated on Nocturnes, screening in the Festival) interview the villagers as construction begins and excitement soars, in this unique, seven-years-in-the-making documentary.

Limited seats are available for patrons requiring access for wheelchairs, low vision and hearing loop. Please contact our ticketing team directly on 1300 733 733 or tickets@sff.org.au to complete your booking.
