IGTV Film Festival
Instagram, VICE, and Sydney Film Festival are inviting young Australians of all experiences and skill sets to create short films that picture their future world, through the lens of the people, passions, and issues that they care about most. We want to amplify new voices — YOUR voices.
The Winner
The 2019 IGTV Film Festival was won by Sara Glaoua for her film The Gift, following a young Ethiopian refugee living in Tasmania with dreams of becoming a professional soccer player. Watch it on Instagram here.
The Audience Award was taken out by Darren Luk and Kerrod Cooper for their film Fier.
The Brief
Whether it’s a short film about the environment, identity, politics, food, or sport we want to see the future through your own eyes, for films that centre on “your world.” Whatever that means to you is open to interpretation, but give us a sense of what it means to live life in Australia in years to come. Show us your Future Universe.
We encourage people to celebrate the diversity of Australia and submissions may come in any language (please do add subtitles).
This initiative has a zero tolerance policy on hate speech.
The Prize
At the close of the submission period, Sydney Film Festival, IGTV, and VICE chose a shortlist of the best films, publishing the finalist’s work on VICE Australia’s IGTV channel (50k+ followers).
These finalists also won a trip to Sydney to attend Sydney Film Festival, where all shortlisted films were screened IRL at a multimedia activation space at the Hub.
The winner was announced at a special event during the festival, chosen by an industry jury, taking home AUD$5,000 in prize money. They also received $2500 worth of rental for camera and lenses furnished by Panavision.
A People’s Choice Award was also up for grabs, chosen from votes cast at the Instagram Lounge, located in this year’s Hub!
