Set against an Arctic backdrop in 2000 BCE, two lovers defy an evil shaman’s curse to restore balance to the ancient landscape. Winner Best Canadian Film, Toronto 2025.

In 2000 BCE, lovers Kaujak and Sapa are promised to each other at birth. This sacred bond is shattered when a sudden death forces Kaujak’s mother into a new marriage, tearing the pair apart. In an ancient world where spiritual and physical boundaries blur, Kaujak must resist aggressive suitors and an evil shaman’s lethal curse to find her way back to her promised husband. Directed by celebrated Inuk filmmaker Zacharias Kunuk (Atanarjuat: The Fast Runner; Searchers, SFF 2016), Uiksaringitara: Wrong Husband is a cinematic feat. Best Canadian Film at the Toronto International Film Festival, this powerful tale blends epic drama with supernatural suspense, exploring classical themes of fate, justice, and jealousy.

“An epic that feels both ancient and fresh.”
