Synopsis

A sinister presence visible only through a camera stalks three women in this beguiling, richly textured chiller starring Ester Expósito (Netflix’s Elite). Best Director, San Sebastián 2024.

Pedro Martín-Calero’s eerie feature debut casts aside familiar horror tropes for something far more unsettling and emotionally impactful. Co-written by multi-award-winner Isabel Peña (The Beasts), The Wailing takes us first to contemporary Madrid, where university student Andrea (Expósito) is haunted by an entity that’s visible only in her camera. From Madrid we're taken to Argentina 20 years ago, where events involving?film student Camila and?alluring young French woman Marie are woven into an unpredictable and supremely unsettling tale of identity, control and fear. This meticulously constructed and metaphorically rich horror story knows that what we don’t see can be much more frightening than what’s in plain sight.

Limited seats are available for patrons requiring access for wheelchairs, low vision and hearing loop. Please contact our ticketing team directly on 1300 733 733 or tickets@sff.org.au to complete your booking.

A cleverly constructed, visually honed, female-centred three-parter that draws viewers into its labyrinth with absolute confidence.
