The Perfect Neighbor
Synopsis
In the little town of Ocala, Florida, families live in harmony – until Susan Lorincz, a white woman, takes issue with the local children, most of whom are Black, playing on the grass outside her home. Though she doesn’t own this space, she repeatedly calls the police on them, claiming to feel threatened. With neighbourhood tensions rising, Ajike Owens, a Black mother of four, confronts Susan. What follows is a devastating reflection of America’s racial injustice and a shocking reminder that racism festers in everyday spaces. This powerful, tragic film unfolds almost entirely through police bodycam and interrogation footage – its innovative construction helping to earn Geeta Gandbhir her directing award at Sundance.
