Nika & Madison
Eva Thomas’s second feature expands on her short Redlights, tracing the fallout of a violent encounter between a police officer and two estranged cousins. When Madison returns home to her community, tensions with her cousin Nika simmer beneath the surface – until a night out turns catastrophic, forcing them into flight. Now in the crosshairs of a major police investigation, the pair move between reserve and wilderness, while two detectives begin to question the official story. While rooted in the legacy of police brutality and sexual violence, the film skillfully centres the volatile, tender bond between its leads, becoming a powerful portrait of survival, trust, and reconnection.
