Beloved by critics and crowds at the Berlinale, this coming-of-age gem follows a shy, queer teen who develops a cathartic bond with a grieving mother (Oscar nominee Sophie Okonedo).

Suburban Arkansas, 2002. Best friends Minnie (Katherine Mallen Kupferer) and Callie (Chloe Coleman) are entering senior year in high school. While their personalities may differ – Minnie is the 'mousey' one and Callie is the popular queen bee – their bond runs deep. In Callie's orbit, Minnie is accepted into her upper-class lifestyle and social clique. But after a tragic accident, Minnie is left rudderless. Ashamed of her own status and fractured relationship with her mother, Barbara (Tara Mallen), Minnie develops a surrogate relationship with Callie's mum, Helen (skilfully played by Okonedo). A humane dramedy from indie duo Kelly O'Sullivan and Alex Thompson, the creative force behind Ghostlight (SFF 2024).

“While I’m not sure there’s yet a cult assembled around the deeply empathetic and uniquely humane cinema of O’Sullivan and Thompson, God willing, there will be after more audiences see [Mouse].”

Kate Erbland, IndieWire

“Mouse is grounded not just in reality, but relatability. While not a comedy, it’s full of humor and subtle, wince-worthy moments that feel instantly familiar.”

Peter Debruge, Variety

“The laughs and the tears – and there are plenty of both in the picture – are fully and honestly earned.”
