Synopsis

Full of electrifying twists, this Locarno Special Jury Prize-winning drama follows a retired Austrian MMA fighter who accepts a lucrative gig in Jordan training three sisters.

Iraq-born, Vienna-based director Kurdwin Ayub’s suspenseful second feature Moon stars Austrian performance artist Florentina Holzinger as mixed martial arts fighter Sarah. Hired as a personal trainer for three wealthy teen sisters, Sarah jets off to Amman, Jordan. What at first seems like a dream job – five-star hotel, private driver, generous compensation – soon turns unsettling. The girls, who show little interest in training, are strictly cut off from the outside world, and under constant surveillance by oddly threatening bodyguards. Blending horror and thriller tropes with committed realism, Ayub crafts a taut, unsettling tale of cultural collision that provocatively confounds expectations at every turn.

Limited seats are available for patrons requiring access for wheelchairs, low vision and hearing loop. Please contact our ticketing team directly on 1300 733 733 or tickets@sff.org.au to complete your booking.

Holzinger perfectly embodies a foreigner out of her depth.
