Direct from Cannes, the two-time Oscar nominated director will lead a masterclass giving insight into his extraordinary filmography, including his new film Minotaur. In conversation with Jason Di Rosso of ABC Radio National’s The Screen Show.

Known for his engrossing and provocative portraits of contemporary Russian society, Zvyagintsev has been a powerful force in international cinema, since his Venice Gold Lion winning debut The Return in 2003. Since then, he has continued to deliver highly acclaimed films, distinctive to his voice including Elena in 2011, Leviathan in 2014, and Loveless in 2017. He comes to Sydney Film Festival for the first time, to present his latest film Minotaur and provide audiences a rare opportunity to hear directly from one of the world’s leading filmmakers.

Andrey Zvyagintsev is an acclaimed, Academy Award-nominated Russian auteur. His debut THE RETURN (SFF 2004) won the Golden Lion at Venice; LEVIATHAN (2014) won Best Screenplay at Cannes and a Golden Globe for Best Foreign Language Film; and LOVELESS (2017) won the Jury Prize at Cannes, as well as the prestigious César Award for Best Foreign Film, a first for a Russian director.
