Lurker
Synopsis
On the job at an L.A. indie apparel store, Matt (Théodore Pellerin, Beau Is Afraid) catches the attention of rising star Oliver (Saltburn’s Archie Madekwe) when he blasts a Nile Rodgers deep cut. An oblivious Oliver thinks he’s stumbled upon a kindred spirit: how could he know that Matt is in fact playing a Ripley-esque long game? Oliver invites him to his swanky Hollywood Hills house and asks him to document his creative journey – so enabling Matt's (para)social climbing. Lurker incisively examines themes of loneliness and obsession in the digital age, with riveting, empathetic performances from its two leads, who mine the ambiguity of the central relationship for humour and horror, often in the same scene.
