In its 57-year history, Sydney Film Festival’s short film competition has launched the careers of countless directors, writers, producers, cinematographers and other film creatives. You’ll see who’s next when 10 finalists compete for five illustrious cash prizes.

Up for grabs are the Dendy Live Action Short Award; the Yoram Gross Animation Award; the Dendy Rouben Mamoulian Award for Best Director; the AFTRS Craft Award; and the Event Cinemas Rising Talent Award for Screenwriting. All finalists screen together in two sessions with filmmakers in attendance.

Set in the Aboriginal community of Yirrkala in Arnhem Land, this love story explores how two teens navigate their mutual feelings while maintaining cultural boundaries and kinship.

This animated story charts the international legacy and intergenerational impact of the Ntaria Choir, formerly known as Hermannsburg Choir from the Northern Territory.

A farmer manages to save his livelihood by selling a new fruit product whose origins are best kept a secret between him and his domineering mother.

Late in the night, while the world sleeps, a subterranean swamp craft rushes beneath the reeds in this animated short.

Mr Adidos

Bronson (Nash Edgerton) is obsessed with finding a vintage sweater to complete his fantasy but a surreal encounter with twins (Elouise Eftos) turns the mission into something weirder.

Saint Valentine

A coming-of-age story where two sexually frustrated sisters, who are unsupervised and isolated, encounter two handsome Mormon American boys who come knocking on their door.
