Singin’ in the Rain – Screening for David
We're honouring the life and work of the beloved film critic, writer and former SFF Festival Director David Stratton by screening his favourite film, Singin' in the Rain.
David was a giant in the Australian film industry and a champion for filmmakers at home and abroad. As the co-host of The Movie Show and At the Movies with Margaret Pomeranz, he engaged the Australian public in film discourse; as the director of the Sydney Film Festival from 1966 to 1983, he enriched the local film scene and connected Australia to the world; as an author, advocate and educator, he championed film history and fought against censorship. In June 2025, we honoured David and Margaret with a star on the Australian Film Walk of Fame on the footpath outside the Ritz, the first non-filmmakers to receive the honour.
