Remembering Sam Neill, 1947-2026
Vale to the great actor Sam Neill – supporter of Australian cinema and patron of Sydney Film Festival.
Sydney Film Festival wishes to express our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of Sam Neill, a legend of cinema, a supporter of Australian films, and a dear friend and patron of Sydney Film Festival.
He will be fondly remembered by all those who experienced his craft and bravery as an actor, his infectious larrikin spirit, and his fervent support of exciting new voices in cinema.
As well as being a patron of Sydney Film Festival, we have been honoured to have Sam as a guest of the Festival many times over the years, even at the most recent Festival this June with the new Australian film The Fox.
