June Squibb is priceless as a 93-year-old on the trail of crooks who scammed her. This funny and poignant winner has charmed audiences everywhere since its 2024 Sundance premiere.

Actor-filmmaker Josh Margolin brings us an unexpected and delightful new action heroine in Thelma Post. Oscar nominee Squibb (Nebraska, 2013) is simply irresistible as the oldster who hops on her mobility scooter and zooms across L.A. in search of justice. Margolin’s spot-on screenplay is packed with zingy dialogue and affecting reflections on what it means to grow old. But there’s no syrupy sentimentality here: Thelma is far too busy and determined for that! A dream cast includes Parker Posey, Malcom McDowell and blaxploitation legend Richard Roundtree (Shaft, 1971), who gives his final and arguably greatest performance as Thelma’s loyal pal Ben. Their dynamic duo act is one for the ages – and the aged.

It elevates itself through heartfelt characters, a sharp sense of humour that never turns mean, and honest affection for the human condition
