All the Beauty and the Bloodshed

Academy Award-winning documentary filmmaker Laura Poitras (Citzenfour) follows artist and activist Nan Goldin in her fight to hold the Sackler family responsible for their part in the opioid epidemic as the owners of Purdue Pharma. Narrated by Goldin and featuring many of her ground-breaking photographs, the Ocscar-nominated All the Beauty and the Bloodshed weaves together an intimate portrait of the artist’s life—including the fight against AIDS and her own struggles with opioid addiction—with her political crusade against the Sacklers and the arts institutions that have accepted their money. All the Beauty and the Bloodshed’s Venice Golden Lion win—only the second documentary film to take the top prize in the festival’s history—was quickly followed up with nominations for the Best Documentary at the Academy Awards and BAFTAs.
