Escape from Mogadishu
An exciting drama based on real events; as civil war breaks out in Somalia opposing diplomats from South and North Korea join forces to escape the chaos.
Mogadishu 1991, and the harassed South Korean ambassador to Somalia is on a mission to win crucial Somalian votes to secure his country’s membership of the United Nations. But his North Korean competitor, an uber-experienced diplomat, appears to be gaining the Somalian President’s attention. Suddenly, the city suddenly enters a military-enforced lockdown. The duelling diplomats are trapped in their residences with limited supplies and no connection to the outside world. As rebels roam the streets, the ambassadors reluctantly join forces, belatedly realising it’s the only way they and their families can reach safety.
With extraordinary action sequences and compelling characters, and even a little humour, director Ryoo explores the impact of heart-breaking decisions as well as the importance of humanity in times of extreme crisis.
