A cautionary tale that follows a family as it struggles to reunite after falling apart, The Son centres on prosperous New York lawyer Peter (Hugh Jackman in a Golden Globe-nominated performance), whose hectic life with his new partner Beth (Vanessa Kirby) and their baby is upended when his ex-wife Kate (Laura Dern) appears at his door to discuss their truanting teenage son Nicholas (young Aussie actor Zen McGrath). As an offer for his dream job presents itself, Peter makes it his mission to successfully juggle his career with his family life and caring for his troubled son the way he’d wanted his father (Anthony Hopkins) to have taken care of him. But, by obsessing over the past to correct its mistakes, Peter may risk losing Nicholas in the present.
