Out Stealing Horses
Stellan Skarsgård (Chernobyl, Mamma Mia) shines as old Trond, a thoughtful yet lonely man who is prompted to recall a certain Norwegian summer that changed his life forever. Based on the novel of the same name, in 1948 young Trond and his father escape Oslo for the summer, arriving at a lodge in the idyllic forests of rural Norway. They wander through fields of tall grass, shower in the blistering rain, and fell trees for timber. Trond even makes friends with the boy next door. Their vacation is perfect until several incidents occur that mark a turning point in everyone’s lives. With masterfully interwoven timelines spanning across generations, director Moland delivers a film immersed in Scandinavian nature that deals sensually with memory and loss.
