Follow the trials and triumphs of two intersex people, beauty queen Sharon-Rose Khumalo and male-presenting activist Dimakatso Sebidi – a winner at Thessaloniki and a hit at SXSW and CPH:DOX.
Living in a binary world is a challenge for South Africans Sharon-Rose and Dimakatso, as they are constantly faced with questions of definition from within family and society. Dimakatso is now in a caring relationship and the ebullient Khumalo is supported by a loving family, but it hasn’t been an easy path. Working closely, over almost five years, with debut director Romanian Tünde Skovrán, the pair reveal their parallel but divergent struggles, some societal, others medical or personal. By telling their stories with such honesty, intimacy and openness, they hope to educate a wider audience on what it means to be intersex.
