Eight years in the making, Jane Castle’s poignant documentary about her filmmaker mother is an intimate mother-daughter story and eye-opening chronicle of women’s roles in the film industry.
Lilias Fraser was a trailblazing film director who faced down discrimination in a male-dominated industry. She was also one of the first female cinematographers in Australia. After studying in Europe, Lilias started a successful film company with her husband. But both her marriage and company fractured, and as a single mother with an insatiable drive to make movies, Lilias struggled with alcoholism and keeping her career alive. Decades on, her daughter Jane became an award-winning cinematographer and confronted similar challenges to her mother. Driven by her need to understand and heal from their shared trauma, director-cinematographer Jane digs into her mother's past, using stunning unseen footage from Australia's cinematic history. Their relationship and careers are laid bare in this outstanding documentary.

Jane Castle is a multi-award-winning filmmaker and cinematographer on feature films, documentaries and a vast range of music videos for performers such as Prince, U2, Mary J Blige, Usher and INXS.
