What Will Become of Us
“When I think back on that young Jewish boy fleeing the Nazis, I find it hard to believe how I ended up here,” says Sir Frank. He recalls those challenging times as he visits his childhood home in former Czechoslovakia. Fleeing to Budapest to escape the Nazi occupation, his family's life hung on a thread. Post-war, after living as a refugee, Lowy immigrated to Australia. He opened a shop in Blacktown – the beginning of his corporate empire – and married his beloved Shirley. Today, in his late 80s, Sir Frank faces a difficult choice – whether or not to merge his company and ultimately retire. The story of a remarkable life, and of a man who, like many, has to swim the tide of history as he grapples with family, work and ageing.
