Leigh Whannell’s alliance with hit factory Blumhouse Productions and Goalpost Pictures brings us a tale bristling with imagination, gory thrills and emotional backbone. Logan Marshall-Green (The Invitation, SFF 2015) is Grey, an old-school mechanic in a near-future where Artificial Intelligence does almost everything. After low-life scumbags murder his wife (Melanie Vallejo) and leave him paralysed, Grey is implanted with STEM, a miracle-performing microchip. Soon, he’s transformed into a super-warrior bent on revenge. Whannell’s fast and furious winner has a great sense of humour and features some of the most exciting fight scenes in recent memory.
One of the most strikingly invigorated sci-fi watches I've been awestruck by in quite some time. – Matt Donato, Slash Film
Leigh Whannell does bonkers better than almost any writer in Hollywood, and Upgrade is no exception – Aaron B. Peterson, The Hollywood Outsider
