Transition
Australian filmmaker Jordan Bryon documents his own gender transition while embedded with Taliban forces in Afghanistan. In Competition, Tribeca 2023.
Jordan has been living and working as a journalist and filmmaker in Afghanistan for more than six years. After the departure of US forces, he stays to document Afghan life under the male-centric Taliban leadership. With his colleague, Teddy, he heads to a Taliban stronghold in the north-west of the country, shortly after he started transitioning. If the Taliban knew he was trans, they would likely kill him. It’s a chaotic time, for the country and for Jordan, as he navigates his transformation and looks to the future. Special Guest
Jordan Bryon
Director
Jordan Bryon is a transgender DP/Director, hailing from rural Australia. His work has been recognized with two BAFTAs, an Emmy and a Human Rights Press Award. His debut feature documentary, Birds of the Borderlands followed queer Arabs in Jordan and Lebanon and resulted in him being deported from both countries. Birds of the Borderlands screened at 15 international film festivals. He won two 2023 BAFTA awards for his work on the documentary Children Of The Taliban. Transition premiered at Tribeca Film Festival and Sheffield Doc Fest.
