Love, desire and wine are on the menu in this charming French romantic comedy adapted from the award-winning stage hit by writer-director Ivan Calbérac. A delicious drop.
With his wine business on the brink of bankruptcy 50-ish Jacques doesn’t have much to smile about. Hortense is a cheery, 40-something midwife and charity volunteer who doesn’t have anyone to share her big and generous heart with. When Hortense books a tasting session at Jacques’ shop it’s the start of something seemingly wonderful. Of course, nothing’s that simple – and everyone has a past. Calbérac’s zingy adaptation of his own play sparkles with sophisticated wit and glows with heartfelt emotion. Isabellé Carré and Bernard Campan are perfectly cast as the lonely souls. There’s also much to enjoy on the sidelines, with Mounin Amamra a deadpan delight as Jacques’ straight-talking new assistant Steve.New session added – Back by Popular Demand
