Perhaps the most visually striking film in this year’s Festival. A surreal environmental tale that opens with the remarkable shot of a 30-metre-high tree floating across a pale ocean.
In the coastal villages and forests of Georgia, ancient trees are being uprooted. The locals gather to watch the workers digging out the immense root balls. Some are angry, others nostalgic, some philosophical – after all, it pays well. New roads are being built to accommodate the massive vehicles required to shift these colossi down to the sea. Barges await, ready to ship the trees to their new home, a man-made Eden owned by a wealthy and anonymous man. The shocking story of one man's power over these majestic living artefacts is creatively documented by Georgian director Salomé Jashi. This singular film was selected for Sundance, New Directors/New Films, CPH:DOX and Berlinale this year.

Shortlisted for the Sustainable Future Award
