A shocking exposé of the media, public and political treatment of Julia Gillard. Made entirely from archival footage – and tragically prescient of misogyny today.
In 2010, Julia Gillard became the Australian PM – fifty years after the world's first female prime minister was appointed. But soon the name calling began, not just from media figures like Andrew Bolt and Alan Jones, but from her parliamentary colleagues too. Shamefully, the attacks became more and more vitriolic, sexist and violent. Gillard's response, her "Misogyny Speech" of October 2012, made headlines around the world. Using archival footage, director Tosca Looby and producer Karina Holden (who worked together on See What You Made Me Do) join forces with editor Rachel Grierson-Johns (Love on the Spectrum) to explore themes of sexism, power and misogyny in both our parliament and broader society.

Tosca Looby has been directing high-end factual programming for the past two decades. She has also worked across a diverse range of human sets, creating awarded series and documentary specials for Australian and international television. In 2021, she directed the seminal documentary series See What You Made Me Do.
