Screen Day Out
Director and competition founder Stéphane de Freitas films students as they prepare for the Eloquentia competition. Lawyers, slammers and directors teach them the delicate art of public speaking. Over the weeks, they learn about body language, debating, voice control and other subtle crafts. Ultimately, they discover how to truly speak their minds. Most participants have never spoken in public before, and for many French isn’t their first language. All must find their voice and take to the stage to compete for ‘The Best Orator’.
It’s less of a question of who the winner is than of seeing an entire class of kids being boosted to a place where they can finally speak their minds the way the powers-that-be do on a daily basis. – Jordan Mintzer, The Hollywood Reporter
