Director Sacha Polak (Dirty God, SFF 2019) reunites with Vicky Knight in the semi-autobiographical role of a burn survivor obsessed with revenge. Selected Berlinale 2023.
Fifteen years ago Franky (Knight) was severely burned when the East London pub where she slept as a child caught fire – an incident mirroring Knight’s real experience. Now a nurse, she is unable to let go of the past and becomes obsessed with exacting revenge on the suspected arsonist. At the same time, she begins a whirlwind romance with outpatient Florence (Esmé Creed-Miles) that changes the course of her life. Along the way, the new family Franky makes helps her find a way back to her own roots. Knight, in a performance that won her the Teddy Jury Award at this year’s Berlinale, is exceptional in this vibrant social-realist drama that recalls the work of directors Andrea Arnold and Lynne Ramsay.
