Actor Randall Park’s (Veep, WandaVision) directorial debut is a hilarious, biting comedy about race, identity and desire, bringing Adrian Tomine’s graphic novel to the screen.
Ben (Justin Min,
After Yang) is a filmmaker who hasn’t made a film for some time. He lives with his girlfriend Miko (Ally Maki), who works at an Asian American film festival. Ben has unrestrained views on identity and the depiction of Asian Americans on screen – and is scathing about films that don’t meet his ideals of representation. But, as Miko and Ben’s queer best friend Alice (Sherry Cola) point out, Ben’s roving eye (and pornographic interests) usually settle on white women. When Miko goes off on a suspiciously spontaneous internship, Ben sees the opportunity to pursue what he thinks he really desires. Park, the brilliant comedic actor, makes an auspicious debut with this sharp, wildly funny and irreverent film.
