Two of the brightest stars of French cinema, Noémie Merlant and Nahuel Pérez Biscayart, play a hipster couple coming to terms with surviving a terror attack. Berlinale 2022.
Merlant (
Portrait of a Lady on Fire, SFF 2019;
Paris, 13th District, SFF 2021) and Pérez Biscayart (
BPM) play Céline and Ramón, a happy young couple that attend a concert at the Bataclan theatre in Paris on the fateful night of 13 November 2015. While they survive the attack, each is scarred by the memories of the terrible violence inflicted. While Céline throws herself into her work, Ramón is debilitated, replaying the events in his mind, trying to make sense of it. Sensitively handled by Spanish director Isaki Lacuesta, and with tremendous performances by the leads, the film moves between the heady first days of the romance to the daily struggle to reconnect and move forward, unfolding with mystery and emotion.
