Nothing Fancy: Diana Kennedy
The grand old lady of Mexican cooking, now 95 years old, is still as feisty as a habanero. It's many years since she left England, met an American journalist based in Mexico City, and fell in love with the country and its food. Until she started her substantial research, the cuisine of regional Mexico was little known, celebrated or documented. After her books topped the charts, Kennedy became a regular on US television. Today, she cultivates rare plants, integral to her dishes, at her sustainable home. She drives to country markets and interrogates stallholders about the origins of their produce. Above all, the formidable Diana continues to be a stickler for authentic Mexican cuisine (just listen to her lecture on guacamole!).
