La Pointe Courte
Charting two different stories, respected theatre actors Philippe Noiret and Silvia Monfort play an intellectual Parisian couple at a crossroads; and in the alternate story, the villagers of Sète, on the southeast coast of France, enact scenarios drawn from their own reality. An unforgettable work of stark contrasts and filmic complexity, La Pointe Courte was credited by film historian Georges Sadoul as "genuinely the first film of the nouvelle vague." It's exhilarating to consider that Varda had no formal training, and had seen virtually no other films, before embarking on filming La Pointe Courte.
