New Orleans’s iconic festival, the place to see and hear legends, celebrates its 50th year in this feel-great documentary. Rock ’n’ roll, R&B, soul … more than just jazz!
Thousands of musicians, enthusiastic crowds and umpteen food stalls – that’s JazzFest. It’s been called ‘the world’s greatest backyard barbeque’, and ‘the most kick-ass party in the world’. Founded back in 1970 (it would have been 1962 if not for Louisiana’s Jim Crow laws) as a celebration of The Big Easy and its culture, the festival has endured despite hurricanes and pandemics. Co-directors Frank Marshall and Ryan Suffern have assembled a feast of archival footage, along with performances and interviews to illustrate the event’s rich legacy: from Earth, Wind & Fire to Wynton, Branford Marsalis, Irma ‘Soul Queen of New Orleans’ Thomas, Katy Perry, Bruce Springsteen and Pitbull.
