After a disastrous wedding night, Natalie flees her policeman husband and her small, rural town with her pregnant best friend Poppie. Racing away on horseback, the pair try to evade both Natalie's husband and the law. On their trail is Captain Beauty Cuba, a perceptive, soap opera-loving policewoman. The Captain is not only searching for Natalie but also determined to clear the name of her fiancé, who has been framed for a crime he did not commit. Director Jenna Bass, who co-wrote Rafiki (SFF 2018), expertly ramps up the tension while also exploring the gendered and racial hierarchies of South African society. Her three vivid and fascinating characters must navigate not only treacherous situations, but societal expectations.
