By turns frank, funny and heartbreaking, this deeply-personal multi-award winner from the UK about addiction and love, explodes the form of documentary filmmaking.
To say this film is about the troubled life of a heroin addict’s daughter is to diminish its power and resonance. Even though her mother abandoned her as a baby, Lisa Selby idolised her glamourous yet addicted parent. Flicking through photo albums and searching online she tries to find a connection, but now her mother is dying. What’s more, her partner is then jailed for drug dealing. All this trauma is captured on her iPhone and multiple hard drives. A collective of filmmakers, including co-director Rebecca Lloyd-Evans and director-editor Alex Fry, worked with artist-lecturer Lisa to assemble the images into an emotionally raw and striking film – an Audience Award winner at London Film Festival.
