My Reincarnation

Over 20 years, award-winning filmmaker Jennifer Fox (Beirut: The Last Home Movie, SFF 1987) followed Tibetan Buddhist master Chögyal Namkhai Norbu Rinpoche and his Italian-born son. Recognised as a reincarnated lama when he was just five years old, Chögyal Namkhai Norbu was trained in Dzogchen meditation before being forced to flee Tibet, finally settling in Italy. When his son Yeshi was born, he was recognised as the reincarnation of the Khyentse Rinpoche Chökyi Wangchuk, his father's uncle and master. Instead of following his father's path, Yeshi resists and chooses a business career. As his father gets older, however, he feels the pressure to change and so embarks on a different road, one that takes him to Tibet and challenges his self-image. Fox's long-term connection with the family offers a unique opportunity to watch a father-son relationship unfolding in the modern world, against the background of ancient beliefs and traditions.
