King’s blending of naturalism and pure cinematic flourish packs an unexpectedly powerful emotional punch. It’s the road-trip romance reinvented, remapped. (Village Voice)

HERE

American filmmaker and video artist Braden King (Sonic Youth: Do You Believe in Rapture?, SFF 2007) brings his ravishing visual sensibility to this lyrical, restless road-movie. Will (Ben Foster) is an American cartographer 'ground-truthing' in the Caucasus - testing for discrepancies between satellite images used for GPS mapping and the real geography of place. Gadarine (Lubna Azabal) is a photographer searching for another kind of truth. She has recently returned home to Armenia and is testing her own connection to the land, its culture and identity. After a chance encounter they decide to embark on a journey together, off the map and into uncharted territory. Co-scripted with Australian writer Dani Valent, the film is interspersed with painterly interludes that explore memory and the transitory nature of things, conceptually attesting to HERE's earlier iterations as installation works at both the Sundance Film Festival (2008) and MoMA New York (2010).
