Sydney Film Festival’s prestigious Australian Short Film Awards were established in 1970, and have been sponsored by Dendy Cinemas for over 40 years. The awards are presented at SFF’s Closing Night ceremony.
The Dendy Live Action Short Award, sponsored by Dendy Cinemas, provides a $7,000 cash prize to the best Australian short film. Winners are Academy Award eligible.
The Rouben Mamoulian Award, sponsored by Dendy Cinemas and named after the director who first presented the award in 1974, provides a $7,000 cash prize to the best Australian short film director.
The Yoram Gross Animation Award, sponsored by Sandra and Guy Gross in memory of the late Yoram Gross, provides a $5,000 cash prize to the best Australian animated short film. Winners are Academy Award eligible.
The 2017 Award winners have been announced! In the Dendy Awards for Australian Short Films categories, the $7000 cash prize for the Dendy Live Action Short Award went to Adele, directed by Mirene Igwabi, while Sunday Emerson Gullifer was Highly Commended for her short film Tomorrow, and tomorrow, and tomorrow. And Daniel Agdag's animation Lost Property Office cleaned up, by taking out both the $7000 Rouben Mamoulian Award for Best Director and the $5000 Yoram Gross Animation Award.
